Check out today's post on Witcraft.org for my latest short story. It's only about a 1-minute read, but you know it's a big deal because they used my middle initial!
I'm too embarrassed to admit how much time I spent fooling with the format of the story to make it look like a genuine text exchange. Meanwhile, Witcraft seems to have found an easy solution that differentiates between the two speakers clearly enough without bringing speech bubbles or blue text into it.
I have great respect for the efficiency of Witcraft's operation. If you visit the website, you'll notice the no-frills approach, focused on the content. That same approach is reflected in their correspondence. The editor, Doug, is responsible for my quickest rejection ever—a submission from about a year ago that earned a pass in under an hour—and now my quickest acceptance ever, with a similar response time (some journals take several months to respond, for comparison). When he emailed to notify me of the acceptance, he said the story would be posted on March 24. And now there it is! Maybe I shouldn't be surprised when things go according to plan, but it is refreshing, nonetheless.
